Immediately after the race owner-breeder Ken Lock announced plans to tackle the Listed Albert Bartlett Stakes, formerly the Rous Stakes, to be run over the short-course at Ascot on October 4.
“We’ve waited for that,” said Lock. “We made the right decision to take our time and aim at the Bartlett Stakes.”
Milly’s Gift, the 9/4 favourite, tracked the leaders and sprinted hard to win by a neck for apprentice Ryan Tate.
Milly’s Gift had won the Palacegate Touch Handicap (five furlongs) at Sandown on July 4 and finished a head second to Discussiontofollow in the Totepool Heritage Handicap (five furlongs) at Ascot on July 12.
Milly’s Gift, from Milly’s Lass, by Mind Games, is prepared by Group 1 winning trainer Clive Cox at Beechdown Stables, Berkshire.
Her win followed the outstanding wide running success by Trade Fair’s Virtual Trader in the Tabtouch-Home Of Racing & Sport Handicap (1600m) at Belmont Park on Saturday.
